What is Reiki?
What is Reiki?
The word Reiki can be split into two parts, Rei and Ki. Rei means Universal or sacred, and Ki means energy. Reiki is an ancient hands on healing technique with its origins in Japan and Tibet. It is used to help re-charge, re-align and re-balance energy in the body.
Where did it come from?
Usui Reiki was developed in Japan in the early 1900’s by Dr Mikao Usui. Over the years it spread to the west via Hawaii. Currently Reiki is practiced all over the world and is one of the most popular healing modalities. In America, Reiki is joining other complimentary therapies in conventional settings of hospitals, hospices, counselling centres, emergency rooms and intensive care units. Reiki is an important tool that can help maximize recovery time in hospital.
How does it work?
Reiki is harnessed by intent and directed through the hands as a powerful yet unobtrusive flow of energy. When activated by the facilitator, Reiki flows through one individual to another by the laying on of hands. The recipient receives only as much as they need. Reiki is experienced in several different ways. To some, there is a sensation of warmth or coolness in the facilitators hands. Some people can actually feel the pulsating rhythm, some feel a trembling sensation or a tingling, and sometimes the recipient doesnt feel anything physical but experiences a sense of calmness and relaxation within themselves.
